The Benelux is a union in Western Europe that comprises three neighboring countries, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg (België/Belgique/Belgien - Nederland - Lëtzebuerg/Luxembourg/Luxemburg), which lie in the north western European region between France and Germany. The name is formed from the beginning of each country's name; it was possibly created for the Benelux Customs Union, although according to The Economist it was coined somewhat earlier, in August 1946, by that newspaper's correspondent in Belgium. However, it is now used in a more generic way to refer to the cultural, economic, and geographic grouping. The Benelux region has a total population of about 27,725,734 and occupies an area of approximately 74,640 square kilometres (28,820 sq mi). Thus, the Benelux has a population density of 371/km² (958/sq mi). From Wikipedia under the

Answered by Ichi - Tue Dec 5 10:20:21 2006 Eurail Select Pass (France-Benelux)? Q. If I buy a 4-day Benelux-France Eurail Select Pass, will I still have to pay extra to take the Thalys from Paris to Brussels, Amsterdam, or Luxembourg? I'm curious about the train routes in general and didn't find any connection between Luxembourg and Paris on Luxembourg's train website. Does anybody know if there's a direct line that connects Paris (or France) and Luxembourg? Or do I have to take a detour? Thank you! Asked by caroline - Sun Oct 22 22:40:05 2006 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Yes, they always charge a lil extra even if you have a pass. I had a Eurail and I had to pay around 13 euros to ride the Thalys from Amsterdam and Paris. Answered by CbopXB - Mon Oct 23 00:08:45 2006 Understanding the Eurorail Pass?
Q. I want to buy a Select Pass for 5 countries which are: Greece, Italy, France, Benelux and Ireland. My question is if I am starting out in Germany, will this particular pass allow me to get to the first destination? Or do I have to add Germany into the selected countries? Also, when I am done visiting each country, respectively, can I use, for example, my benelux portion to get to ireland and so on? Thanks for your help! Asked by Nadia R - Sun Jun 28 18:26:32 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. No, you can't use your pass in a country not listed on it. You should, however, be able to use it from the border of the country. For example, a couple of years ago I got a railpass for Italy but started my trip in Switzerland. At the train station, it was an easy thing to buy a separate ticket to cover me through Switzerland to the border, where my railpass then took effect. If I remember correctly, your selectpass covers any travel you do in any of those countries... it isn't broken into portions for each country Answered by Angela C - Sun Jun 28 20:23:03 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "benelux" |
